Rocky Mount To Lose 425 Jobs In PNC Transition

The new owner of Raleigh-based RBC Bank (USA) is planning to shed more than 600 jobs in North Carolina when the purchase is complete.

PNC Financial Services Group filed notice with the state Department of Commerce Friday announcing plans to cut 425 jobs in Nash County and nearly 200 positions in Wake County in March.

That's the month Pittsburgh-based PNC expects to complete its $3.45 billion purchase of the U.S. retail operations and credit-card assets of the Royal Bank of Canada.

When it announced the purchase last June, PNC said the transaction would give it a total of 2,870 branches and make it the fifth largest U.S. bank.

A call to PNC's headquarters was not immediately returned late Friday.
