Rocky Mount Hospira Plant Opens New Plant

A drug maker in the Rocky Mount that has had it's share of federal recalls for hair and particles found in its injectible drugs, has now invested millions into a new plant.

The Hospira plant cut the ribbon on its new quality and analytical testing lab at the Rocky Mount facility Wednesday afternoon.

Governor McCrory was among the dignitaries there to celebrate the growth of the company.

This comes after the FDA cited problems in the manufacturing plant, which led to the recall of vials of injectible medications, even slowing down production of life-saving drugs.

Hospira's CEO Mike Ball spoke about those problems, saying, "We feel very confident as we move forward that our plant is operating in a very good way and that products it makes here are essential for the health care of Americans."

The company says they invested 200 million dollars in this facility and hired 200 employees over the past five years.

The company has been in Rocky Mount since 1968
