Snowy conditions caused a lot of driving hazards over the past couple days in onslow county, but thankfully no serious accidents.
Many people were back out working and running errands in onslow county Tuesday, which is concerning to emergency services director Ron Wakeham. "Overnight when the temperatures drop down and they refreeze the same people who are out there today driving fast will try to drive fast tonight and end up in the ditch."
Wakeham says vehicles in the ditch were the majority of the accidents they've responded to in the past two days. The winter weather has nearly doubled their call volume during those days as well.
Chaz Silance is a tow truck driver for Silance Service Center on Lejeune Boulevard in Jacksonville. He says a lot of the cars he's brought in since the storm have old tires.
Wakeham says their call numbers have dropped back down to average, and he thinks the majority of people took their advice to stay off the roads.
