Family, friends and a community are mourning the loss of their mayor.
Richlands mayor, 70-year-old Marvin Trott, died Sunday of a heart attack. He had been mayor for 16-years.
Trott died while he was working on apartments he owned in Jacksonville.
Family members say Trott was in good health except for his battle with high blood pressure.
Trott is known for his hard work and dedication to his community and the improvements made to water and sewer in Onslow County.
Mayor pro-tem McKinley Smith will fill-in until the board decides on a permanent replacement.
Funeral services will be held at Richlands United Methodist Church Wednesday at 11 am. Visitation is Tuesday from 6pm to 8 pm at Jones Funeral Home in Richlands.
Mayor Marvin Trott died Sunday at the age of 70.
According to the Jacksonville Daily News Trott was a life-long Richlands resident and retired furniture salesman.
He had been mayor for the last 16 years.
Trott was well known for long range planning of water and sewer needs and refusing to adopt any quick fixes.
