The James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant Medical Center opens its doors today.
The hospital is named for the couple who donated $9 million to the completion of the new facility.
The new hospital will allow the staff to treat more children from the 29 counties it serves. It will also allow children with compromised immune systems to be treated at the facility in Greenville, in the state-of-the-art Kids Immunosuppressed Specialty Unit.
The 197 beds and bassinets and are equipped and staffed to handle pediatric needs for the tiniest premature infant to the sick or injured high school student.
A community open house is scheduled for Sunday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
