Retired WITN Chief Engineer Honored On Today Show

The retired chief engineer for WITN was honored today on the Today Show for turning 100 years old.

Harvey Mason, who now lives with his son in Greensboro, was chief engineer for Channel 7 for 21 years until he retired in 1976. He hired our current chief engineer, Donald Ipock, in 1975.

After retiring at the age of 65 from WITN, he began a 30-year educational career at Martin Community College and then Beaufort Community College, teaching electronics and physics. Mason moved from Washington to Greensboro in 2006.

Mason is still working. He's building a 43-foot long boat that he started two years ago and is now close to finishing.

Mason was honored on his 100th birthday by NBC's Willard Scott on the Today Show Wednesday morning.
