A town in the east has fired its fire chief, followed by its town manager submitting his own resignation according to a local newspaper.
The Carteret County News Times says that the town of Newport's Fire Chief, Drummond Figg, was fired Friday morning, effective immediately.
The report says that according to Town Manager Dick Casey, the decision to relieve Figg came following an investigation initiated by the town council. Findings of that investigation showed that members of the department had lost confidence in his ability to manage the department, according to the report.
Following that announcement, the report says that Casey then submitted his own resignation, effective this July.
Casey said that his decision was not linked to the fire chief's firing.
