Congressman G. K. Butterfield was in New Bern Thursday evening giving his constituents a closer look on what's going on in Washington.
The town hall meeting was held at the Charlotte Rhone Cultural Center in downtown New Bern. Congressman Butterfield says he wants people to know that congress is serious about balancing the federal budget. He says the $14 trillion debt and a $1.5 trillion deficit is unacceptable.
"I am very much opposed to balancing the federal budget on the backs of low income people and senior citizens. The wealthy people in this country have the responsibility to share in this country,"said G.K. Butterfield, (D-NC) U.S. Representative.
Congressman Butterfield has been traveling throughout his district all week meeting with his constituents.
