Rapper's Charges Dropped For ECU Arrest

Charges against a rapper arrested after his performance at East Carolina University have been dropped.

Wiz Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, was arrested after a show on campus in Greenville last November. Thomaz was charged with drug trafficking.

Now the district attorney says there was not enough marijuana on the rapper's tour bus to meet the drug trafficking charge, according to the Daily Reflector. The paper says three men on the bus admitted the drugs were theirs earlier this month in court.

Previous Story

A rapper who was arrested after his performance at Wright Auditorium on the campus of ECU posted bond Tuesday morning after spending several hours in the Pitt County Detention Center.

Cameron Thomaz, which is the real name of a rapper known as Wiz Khalifa, performed at Wright Auditorium on ECU's campus Monday night.

Thomaz is charged with trafficking marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The man's lawyer says Thomaz was found with less than two ounces of marijuana on him.

Nine others were also arrested on the same charges and were issued the bond of $300,000. Both Thomaz and his tour manager, William Dzomback, posted bond at 8 a.m. Tuesday. A search of the other seven arrested in online records for the Pitt County Detention Center showed they were no longer behind bars Wednesday morning.

Of those seven others arrested, at least two are rappers with connections to Khalifa, while two others have written songs with him.

ECU police say they confiscated about a $1,000 worth of marijuana on the rapper's bus. Officers say they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the tour bus and that's when they started their investigation.

A Facebook group was started to encourage ECU's Student Government Association to book a show with Wiz Khalifa at ECU. The page has more than 1,200 members. Some of the most recent posts on the page say "Free Wiz."

Video that claims to be off the arrest of Thomaz has surfaced on YouTube. The dark video shows a person being taken into custody outside of a large bus, while people in a nearby crowd boo and shout "Free Wiz."

There are multiple videos online that show Thomaz smoking what appears to be marijuana. Click on the related link below to see additional stories.

Why, c-had? Because it's less dangerous than alcohol and/or about 100 or so prescription drugs? Or because it might hurt the drug cartels or pharmaceutical companies? Or because it's the best nausea medicine on earth? Or because the hemp could be used to make paper and clothes, among many other things, helping to save the rain forests? Or, simply because it helps alleveate pain and stress? Come on, give us an example of WHY it should be legalized. Maybe to free up jail cells for violent criminals who are freed daily on parole? Come on, give us a really GOOD reason;-) (Obviously, I'm with you.)

Glad they dropped his charge. One day everyone will understand why people smoke and that it's not the worst thing in the world. He has good music and he doesn't care what people think of him. I see that as a good thing!

Yu gotta love ENC for getting uptight about one of the least dangerous drugs known to man. Hey guys forget about some of the most addictive drugs known to man! Nicotine, alcohol and prescription drugs. The latter has some of the most DANGEROUS side effects but yet they are still allowed to be put on the market.

"Video that claims to be off the arrest of Thomaz has surfaced on YouTube. The dark video shows a person being taken into custody outside of a large bus, while people in a nearby crowd boo and shout "Free Wiz." " Not a claim I was there and he was taken away. ECU should have confiscated the bus. But ah-last they are clueless...
