Psychologist: Children Killing Parents Is Rare Type Of Murder

For the second time this week, an adult child has been charged with killing her own parent.

Inside a home on Belvoir Highway in Pitt County, 44-year old Brittina McDonald rented a room and was seen frequently, caring for her two young grandchildren. McDonald's daughter, 23-year-old Nicole Chandler is accused of stabbing her mother in the chest Tuesday night with a kitchen knife. Pitt County authorities say the 2 women argued, but don't know the nature of it.

This comes a day after, 25 year old Kevin Kleber, of Greenville was charged with shooting his father last month. It's been four months since 41-year-old Gary Upton, Jr. of Washington was charged with shooting his father to death.

We talked to a psychology professor about the prevalence of children killing their parents.

"There's a little bit of research, but there isn't a lot of research as you think, because, killing a parent is relatively uncommon compared all the homicides." said Michael Brown, PhD

Chandler is in jail under a $1million bond and due to the nature of her crime, authorities say she's under suicide watch.
