The power has been restored for hundreds of Craven County residents after a broken power line on Highway 17 Tuesday afternoon.
Progress Energy says at the height of the outage 1300 customers from Vanceboro south toward New Bern were without power. Included was much of the town of Vanceboro.
Progress says a thousand customers were restored around 1:45 p.m., and the rest were restored later. The problem line was at Highway 17 and Gaskins Road.
The local fire department says its station was operating on back-up generator during the outage.
