UPDATE: Victim Says No Campus Abduction

A woman who was a possible abduction victim at Craven Community College Tuesday afternoon was found this afternoon by campus security.

Tuesday several witnesses say they saw a woman assaulted by a man, the woman ran away but then the man grabbed her and the two left in an SUV.

That woman was located today and disputed what witnesses told authorities. She says she was not abducted. The college says since the woman is not reporting a crime, no charges will be filed in the case.

A possible abduction on a community college campus is being investigated in Craven County.

Authorities say it happened around 2:15 p.m. this afternoon on the campus of Craven County Community College.

The college says two witnesses saw a woman walking toward a blue SUV in the student/staff parking lot near the Brock Building and Barker Hall. The woman was approached by a man who struck her several times in the face. The witnesses say she tried to run, but the man caught up with her. They say the two went back to the SUV, with the woman getting into the driver's seat and the man as a passenger. The two left campus at a high rate of speed.

Witnesses told police they had a limited description of the two, she was a white woman, and he was a black man. The SUV is a slate or steel blue vehicle with gray molding on the bottom.

The college says their resource officers and security responded quickly and continue to investigate. College spokesman Sandy Wall says it has not been confirmed if either of the two are students at the college.
