Poll: 1 in 10 Adults Get Regular Financial Help From Parents, Family

A poll by the Pew Research Center shows nearly one out of 10 adults regularly receives financial help from his or her parents or other family members. We talked with some East Carolina University students who say they rely on their parents to help them pay tuition and other expenses.

Interviews of 2,048 adults in 2011 showed more than a third of 18 - 24 year olds rely the most on family for help and gender and race do not matter.

The ECU students we spoke to say without their parents help, they don't know what they would do.

"Everything is so expensive these days I have to ask them a lot for money, but their pretty helpful." said Mallory Bass who's parents help her out.

"I already have subsidized and unsubsidized loans, but it would be even more costly for me and I would be in serious debt when I graduate." said Kelsi Harris who still gets financial help from her parents.

Also according to the poll, it's not surprising young adults who work full-time are least likely to receive money from their parents.
