Kinston police are looking into whether three armed robberies within a three hour period are connected or not. No one was injured in any of the robberies.
The first robbery happened around 10:30 p.m. on the 300 block of East Highland Avenue. Twana Howard told officers she was accosted by a man armed with a handgun. He took her cash and her cell phone. Police say they recovered the cash a short distance away.
Less than a half hour later police say Samuel Small was robbed by a group of six or seven young men while walking near the 700 block of East Gordon Street. In that robbery $18 was taken.
The final holdup happened near the Lunch Box on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 1:15 a.m. Police say the clerk provided 911 with the description of a Chevrolet Malibu. Police stopped the suspected vehicle in the Grainger Stadium parking lot with a 19-year-old and four juveniles inside.
The driver, Donte Johnson, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and simple possession of marijuana after police found a pistol grip shotgun tucked between the driver's seat and the door. At this point no one has been charged with any of the robberies.
