Man Indicted In Death Of Father

A Pitt County grand jury has indicted the man accused of killing his father in January. The Daily Reflector reports that the court formally charged Kevin Kleber of Greenville this week.

Kleber is accused of killing his father, 55-year-old Roy Kleber of Florida, at the son's apartment in Greenville. Police say Kleber told detectives a black man killed his father at the University Park Apartments before admitting he fabricated that story.

Previous Story:

Greenville police say a man arrested earlier this week had intended to kill his father.

Kevin Kleber was arrested at Cherry Hospital on Monday for killing Roy Kleber last month at the son's apartment.

Originally the younger Kleber told police that a black man shot his father, but Chief William Anderson says two days after the shooting he admitted to falsifying police reports. Anderson says Kleber told them that is was an accidental shooting, that he panicked and that was why he made up the report about the black man.

The chief says after many interviews, including people in his home state of Florida, they determined it wasn't an accident and the man intended to kill his father.

Police say at this point they don't know a motive, and say they may never learn why the shooting happened.

A former ECU student appeared before a judge this morning on charges he killed his dad last month.

Kevin Kleber's first appearance was held at the Pitt County Detention Center where he is being held on a $2.5 million bond.

The 25-year-old man was arrested Monday at Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro for the death of his father, Roy Kleber.

The elder Kleber was gunned down at his son's University Park apartment. The Florida man had come to Greenville to help his son move.

During the short hearing the district court judge told Kleber would be given a court appointed lawyer. Kleber asked the judge when he would be assigned one.

Kleber originally told police that a black man had shot his dad, and police say he later admitted to making up the story and actually shooting his father. Police had originally only charged the son with obstruction of justice, but Monday added a murder charge after completing their investigation last week.

Greenville police would not say why Kleber was at the state psychiatric hospital on Monday when he was arrested.

That hurts my heart on so many levels. He intended to kill him? Having lost my Daddy less than a year ago, I know some of the pain that his siblings are facing now. However, by Daddy died of natural causes. There was no one to blame, especially not a brother. God bless all of the Klebers. My heart truely breaks for each of you.

Some people just kill me. Try reading the article before posting comments. He's not "walking the streets" currently. It says he is being held on 2.5 million dollar bond. Plus if you look at the detainee search for PCDC, he's listed that he is in there!!!

Anonymous, Where in the bible does it say honor thy mother and father only when? You are making it to fit what you want it to say and mean. Do you know all the where in my comment did I say I knew all the facts...I mainly quoted what it say and read in the bible. It never reads do all of this only "if", dont make things up. You have the 10 commandments and it does not say follow this only if...come on get real!

CALVIN, Are you still upset about a white person shooting a white person? We need to let justice be served. I have never heard of a black person blaming a white person?

I guess if he had the Lewis boy's attorney's he could be out on $100 bail and walk free the rest of his life. If he just would have gone home, got the gun and come back and shot the man(his dad), he could go free. Just ask the Lewis boy walking free waiting for the right judge!

Tina, there are cases where the "Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother' are not accountable. That means if your parents teach you to follow christ, you are to honor them. In cases where they teach you to lie, prostitute and abuse you, you are not suppose to honor them. Something really when wrong here, and we (you) don't know all the facts.
