Winterville Assistant Fire Chief Suspended

A Winterville assistant fire chief has been suspended from duty after a sexual battery complaint.

Court records show Tony Smart, 54, is charged with misdemeanor sexual battery. The Daily Reflector reports Smart has been suspended as the assistant fire chief and fire marshal in Winterville. This comes after charges stemming from an incident on Sept. 13. The report says Smart is accused of grabbing a woman's rear end.

Smart was given a Nov. 16 court date.

So much for free-speech, huh? I guess when it involves certain people in Farmville it doesn't apply?? How much longer is this cover-up going to last?

There seems to be another cover-up going on here! Wow, some people have way to much power!!

I remember a certain local preacher a few years ago who was arrested for videoing women at the beach with a camera taped to his metal detector. After further investigation they found out he had hidden cameras in the women's restrooms at his church. Know one thought this person would of done something so horrendous. You just never no what a person is capable of do you?

Could it be that there is video?

Anyone who knows Tony knows the kind of man he is. He is one of the most honest, hard working and genuine people in this world. Prayers are with you through this time.

How come its always Town of Winterville Fire Department in the news? There has to be a problem in the leadership in this department. Also the town manager is a joke, look at her record and what is going on internally to keep our town off the print, as it seems were here every month.

Anna, if it were my daughter, she would tell the truth. Not blow up a simple incident into something that could potentially ruin a man. My daughter wouldnt be a drama queen.

I am glad she is not your daughter. You do not know what happened, though you think you do. It seems you know everything about this incident. It wasn't a simple incident, she felt violated!!! This man has potentially ruined himself. Oh, and I do know the name of her boyfriend! Does that really

No, it really does not matter who or boyfriend is or where he works for that matter. If you think it does you have been seriously mislead! All of Smart's friends are just a little emotional. He is lucky to have you guys standing up for him but it really does not matter. Not on this site anyway. You could actually be doing him more harm than good if you think about it!

What about what this girl has gone through? also her family and friends! Why would she even report it if it wasnt true?!. she has nothing to gain. All she wants is for people to understand that men can not keep doing this to young ladies! I keep reading these comments about how Tony is a very nice guy... well this girl is also a very nice girl.. as i've seen stated before, "What if it was your daughter?" I have yet to see a reply to that question.

I totally agree Anna. This young lady does have a family that loves and supports her very much. I'm sure it's hard for them to read some of these comments about her. But they do not know her. I am so proud of her for standing up for her rights and doing the right thing.

Doing the right thing would be not waiting a couple of weeks days or hours. If she felt so violated then she should have come forward. But the truth will come out. And one group will be wrong. I trust Tony with my life and would never fear to have him around my daughter!!!

of course you would feel comfortable bc he obviously did this to someone who didnt even know him.. This girl was scared to say something.. look the facts up it will state women are intimidated by men in uniform and thats why most don't report them.. I'm proud that this girl got over her fears and made charges!

Have you read her account on the "incident"? He bumped in to her said he was sorry and that was it. If you have ever been in to that Cubbies it is small. So if he is doing his job making sure the place if safe and she is doing hers good chance they could have bump in to each other. But you have already made up your mind. Guilty until proven innocent. And That is one thing wrong with the county. Like I said before the truth will come out and one of us will be wrong! ;)
