Pitt County Wins 12U Babe Ruth Softball World Series Title

Pitt County battled out of the elimination bracket to win the 12U Babe Ruth World Series Title. Pitt County topped previously unbeaten Lodi, California twice, 6-5 and 6-0.

It's the 8th World Series championship for teams that belong to the Pitt County Girls Softball League, seven have been won by teams in the 12 and under division.

Lodi, California was undefeated until they met a determined Pitt County Team in the Championship game. The only defeat that PC had was to Lodi.

Former WITN PLayer OF The Week Emily Kirby pitched all six innings of the first meeting. Facing 26 batters and only giving up 5 hits and 3 walks. Kirby had 3 strike outs.

Leading batters for Pitt County were Grace Cochran (2-3), Lindsey McCallum (2-3), and Lauren Conway (3-3).

Lauren Conway was given the honor of Player of the Game.

In the Second game, Pitt County scored two runs in the top of the 1st inning. Then two more runs in the top of the 3rd. Followed by two more runs in the top of the fifth.

The first two runs seemed to take the wind away from Lodi and they were not able to score against the awesome defensive effort by Pitt County.

Player of the game honors was given to Lindsey McCallum.

Leading batters in game two were Makenna Matthijs (2-4) and Kaley Coltrain (2-3).
