Pinetown Man Accused Of Pit Bull Cruelty

A Pinetown man is accused of performing medical procedures on pit bulls without veterinary assistance.

John Asby, Jr. of Boyd Loop Road is charged with six counts of felony cruelty to animals.

Beaufort County deputies say on November 29th they received a complaint of animal cruelty from animal control officers. After a search warrant, deputies say they found multiple pit bulls on the property.

The 20-year-old Asby was arrested Thursday and released after posting a $5,000 secured bond.

He would cut young and adult dogs ears for $50 bucks. He would ice the ears to numb it before slicing them off. I am not sure how he would stop the bleeding - maybe quick stop??? It is all about the $$$$$

I saw just how cruel this man is to animals today when a stray dog came into our neighborhood who looked like it was nearly starved. this man you all think is so horrible that he came out and brought food over the that dog and fed it until it was full. Sorry but the kind of person you all describe here does not do kind things like that. Thank You for helping that animal that was truly a kind thing to do.

if people actually knew him they would know he wouldnt do anything to harm his dogs. they are like his kids. people need to stop pointing fingers and before they actually know the truth just because its on here dont mean its true.

honestly it doesn't matter what kind of a person he is or even who he is. the simple fact is he intentionally and knowingly participated in animal cruelty. he is certainly not a vet and therefore should not even think about practicing a procedure like that on anything in my opinion he gets what he deserves!!! and there is a vets office right down the road from him but if he didn't have money for it then he shouldn't have the dog!!

He needs to have his ears clipped to see how it feels. you dont do this to animals thats just not right, they cant tell you how it feels! why dont we put a sock in his mouth and chop off a part of his ears and see how he likes it?!?

What is the difference between clipping the ears of a young puppy.. and circumcision?

A circumcision has benefits, which most in BoCo would not know about..., and the procedure is done within a very short time of coming out of the womb. Cropped ears cause health problems, hearing problems, and when its a homeade job like his, they look really ugly!! Plus its not done until the puppies have been alive for 4-8weeks and have acquired full sense of feeling and sensation. Good try though.....

Your right, no ones perfect, but most have a little bit of common sense and feeling!! Image someone cutting off your ears, wouldnt you much rather have them put you under first so that you dont feel the excruciting pain caused by this act of stupidness! Yup...And pits are great dogs and should be respected a little more, but this is the reason that they are not...they are in the wrong hands and people like this give them bad reps one way or another.

You're still gonna feel the pain!! It doesnt completely numb you!! Smart guy!! Jus cut the criticism out!1 Its NOT needed..their are people dying everyday and you're worried about something that happens all over the world everyday nd sumin that will heal!! Get it together!!

Right on Port!! Most of the people breeding pits are people who shouldn't even own a dog, much less a wonderful & amazing breed like a pit bull! And to "Anony", I took a look at myself & I can promise you I have NOT done worse (or anywhere close!) so why don't you keep your assumptions of other people to yourself. And to your post below, you don't feel anything if you are under anesthesia -- that's why they use it (it does completely numb you -- it knocks you out). And yes there are people dying everyday and there are also animals dying senseless deaths every day because of people like this. It is very easy for a dog to bleed to death from a dysfunctional ear cropping job so those of us who care are entitled to our opinions!! Also, before you criticize others, work on your spelling "smart guy"!

I really wish people would just shut up and stop running their mouth, because no one knows the whole and true story.. Its just sad..I'm not saying that this guy is perfect, but I guarantee you he is no better than you or I. So get a life and let him get his own problems straight without you creating more of a problem for him.

I really wish people would not mutilate and kill puppies trying to make a quick dollar. Lots of pain and suffering and when the cut is bad, the puppy bleeds to death or just thrown away because it wont be cute ever again

If your going to try that level, than go ahead and attack the deer hunters and every other thing in this world that involves animals. Deer hunters shoot deer in their guts and let them lay someone and bleed to death all the while the deer are alive and feeling the life slip out of them completely, then they eat them....We as a society view certain acts as normal and as a resource for survival, but common sense should tell you that dogs do not fall into that category. Thats why these types of acts are considered wrong. Society is responsible for getting it to this point...Dog coats, dog shoes, painted dog toenails, dog insurance, dog contacts, soon they will be walking upright and riding in the front seat of the car.

"A bad situation"'re kidding right? The sheriff's office didn't wake up and pick this guy's name out of a hat...there's this thing they use...maybe you have heard of it...called EVIDENCE. Yeah I believe in innocent until proven guilty. but i also believe that there this case is not a "bad situation."'s a situation CAUSED by the defendant. I don't see these dogs running up to cut their own ears off...he made a choice and it was a bad one.

Now, you are kidding right?! If you have lived in Beaufort County any length of time, you would know that your comment is false. Anyone can call in (hotline) about anything true or false and you can be arrested. Then they publish it and people bury the VICTIM by there opinions before they have a chance to be tried or heard. This is just how fast in Beaufort County a rumor gets out of hand. People believe all that they read and they run with it like a pack of wild dogs to see who can spread and say the worst things. JUSTICE, NO, I DON'T THINK SO. Why is everyone so vengeful about every article, geez, I remember when people were kind, I guess I'm living in the ole days. LIVE FOR TODAY, FORGET ABOUT YESTERDAY(PAST),AND TOMORROW IS A MYSTERY(NOT PROMISED).

everyone has their day in court...that's there the EVIDENCE comse in to play...all the rumors and hearsay doesn't amount to anything without evidence in court. I spend a lot of time in court testifying against cruelty offenders and i can tell you no matter what part of NC you are in, if you don't have evidence, you don't have a case. period. Have you been to court? Have you actually sat and listened to cases? Or do you sit in front of your tv and listen to how the media interprets the evidence? Most of these types of Animal Crimes are not with a jury of their peers, but with a judge. so again, the rumormill shouldn't apply.

What? Are you serious?? You can call in (a hotline) and say anything whether it's true or false and they'll arrest someone? Oh my gosh, you're an idiot! The police have to have probable cause to get a search warrant and then they've got to have evidence to arrest someone. They can't just arrest someone just because someone said they did something. The intelligence of some of the people on this thread is unbelievable!!

NO, you have your facts wrong. You can call in(hotline) and say your husband hit you, no evidence, but he will be arrested!!! To answer your question, Yes, I had to sit in on court cases for college reports and it comes down to who you believe. That weighs on the judge in some cases and a jury in other cases. Sad, but, people LIE. A paper prints what they have been told, maybe true, maybe not, but it sells their papers, so who cares, right? NOT! Then johnny public buries the victim from what has been printed, no this is not right!!
