Perdue: We Understand How To Face Adversity

Gov. Bev Perdue appeared on "The Today Show" Monday, speaking about the deadly tornadoes in North Carolina.

Perdue said search and rescue teams are still covering ground in Eastern Carolina, where the damage from the severe weather outbreak was the worst.

Perdue said she would personally continue surveying the damage Monday. After viewing the damage from helicopters Sunday, Perdue described the damage as "paper dollhouses that had collapsed. Lives have been totally disrupted. Entire communities have been totally disrupted," Perdue told Matt Lauer.

Perdue said the people in the state are able to cope with natural disasters. "That's the beauty of North Carolina," Perdue said. "We know how face adversity."

Perdue said she met with the director of FEMA Sunday and discussed expediting the estimates of property and life damage. Helping individual victims of the storm is the top priority, according to Perdue, followed by the businesses that suffered losses. Perdue said she expected by Thursday or Friday, North Carolina could be declared a federal disaster area, which would bring federal emergency aid to the state. Perdue said it doesn't solve everything, but "money helps."

Perdue said she was not sure what kind of aid would be available to farmers after thousands of acres of crops were destroyed.

Perdue's schedule Monday includes touring Bertie, Halifax and Wilson Counties.

Thank goodness Sarah Palin isn't our Governor, she would have just up and quit. At least Perdue is doing her job for the state of North Carolina, instead of running off to Hollywood to do a "reality" tv show like Palin, LOL!

Sorry pIRATE, she may have an office there but she's not from New Bern or anywhere in NC, she's from OFF! So send her back to that place!

I do believe that If I was the governor and the national weather service was predicting major severe storms headed to my state, storms with life threatening potential ,I do not believe that I would take off on a weekend happy time with my fellow sorority sisters and go to a horse race.I believe that the prudent thing to do would to have been to remain in my state and acting as a leader. We see where her priorities are.

I agree: Bev knows how to face adversity. Go to Kentucky to the horse races, have a mint julip or 3 while the state is being demolished by tornadoes. No problems,

Hey Common Sense, I'd love to know when the "governer" will be starting to do any work. As of yet not one person has seen her do any real work! She keeps zooming around "observing" things like sand bars and disaster zones. I wonder what she's thinking..."Hmmm, yeah it definately looks like a tornado came through here, I'd say blame it on the tornado guys. What am I going to do about it? Oh I didn't realize I was supposed to do anything. You want me to help pick up stuff or something? And the Oregen Inlet issue? Yeah I saw all the sand, yeah it's not real deep there is it! What am I doing about it? Well I don't own a shovel, I can't dig it out myself. Lets just get some dynamite and blow that thing wide open! And why do you people keep saying to drop the word Education from the Education Lottery? So what if we keep diverting those funds to pay for my helicopter rides and to cover up Democrat scandals like my beloved leader Mr. Easley and my idol John Edwards. We need that money more than the schools do! Have you heard how bad our scandals are?" Yeah Common Sense, make sure you point out the exact moment she does anything productive for the state of North Carolina.
