Pepsi Cola plans to build a new Sales and Distribution Center here in the east and they'll need to hire 28 people to help run it.
Minges Bottling Group bought a piece of property from Craven County at the Industrial Park. The company plans to break ground on the new building in September. It will be finished sometime in 2015.
The more than 10,000 sq. ft. building will replace the old bottling center on Highway 17 in New Bern.
Craven County Commissioners approved the sale unanimously on Monday.
"Having a project like this that is one of our own is exciting," says Timothy Downs, Craven County's Economic Development Director. "Selling a piece of our property that we've had for economic development, having this great job creation, by a company that is very strong. It all just comes together as a really fabulous project for us."
Construction costs are projected at $2 million.
Pepsi has been in the east for more than a century. The soft drink was developed by a New Bern pharmacist in 1898.
