Hwy 17 Reopened After Two Wrecks

According to troopers Hwy 17 South near Possum Track Road was closed for about 45 minutes after two wrecks, but has since reopened.

The wreck first happened around 10:40 a.m. Troopers say a Mercedes was traveling south on Hwy 17 when it crossed the center line and side swiped a Highlander going north. No one in that wreck was injured and the vehicles weren't severely damaged.

Troopers say then a Cadillac that was driving behind the Highlander saw the accident and tried to pull out of the way, the driver then overcorrected and struck a Nissan that was driving behind the Mercedes head-on.

Four people were transported to Beaufort County Medical Center from that wreck, all with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes was charged with left to center. No one was charged in the second accident.

Thank you to all who helped after the wreck this morning. I am the oldest daughter of the driver of the Cadillac. Everyone was released from the hospital and are bruised and sore, but alive. I appreciate everyone who took time away from their family to help with this!

If the DOT can't soon complete this dangerous stretch of road, there will be a lot more serious accidents. If you have to travel 17 please be extremely cautious. People from out of state have no clue what the pattern will be. Heck I travel it frequently and still is an obstacle course.
