Those opposed to new ferry tolls aren't giving up their fight even after Governor Perdue blocked new ferry tolls and increases on existing ones for at least a year.
The Cherry Branch/Minnesott ferry connecting Highway 306 in Pamlico County to Craven County is mainly used by commuters and residents traveling for medical care.
Pamlico County residents tell us adding a fee to this ferry would hurt them, which is why they're glad Governor Perdue blocked the tolls. But they say this is just the beginning of their fight.
Pamlico County Commissioner Kenny Heath says, "We still need to overturn the law that the legislation passed, we need to go in force to Raleigh and show them that we're serious about fighting this."
Pamlico County residents are traveling to Raleigh on March 9th to attend the legislative committee meeting. Hyde and Beaufort Counties are also lobbying against the tolls.
