Pamlico County has grounded plans for aerial mosquito spraying due to Hurricane Irene.
County Manager Tim Buck says commissioners killed to idea after learning there was no guarantee for FEMA reimbursement. Many communities say they have been overwhelmed by mosquitoes after the hurricane and Pamlico County was set to spray from the air.
Buck says the county wasn't comfortable taking $175,000 out of the budget for aerial spraying while there are many other hurricane-related costs. The county manager says they have gotten the approval to buy another spray truck and use stronger mosquito spray.
The Health Department will begin today spraying aggressively and Buck says the addition of a second truck should be just as effective as the aerial spraying.
