East Carolina University will fare much better than other state schools when it comes to the number of degrees that are proposed to be cut.
The UNC system has released a list of 60 degree programs that it wants eliminated, and just one of those is at ECU.
The program proposed is the BA in Art that was established at the university back in the 1960's. The university says the program has approximately three students which would be transferred into the new Bachelor of University Studies degree program.
ECU says because the students already attend existing classes in other concentrations, there are no tenured or tenure-track faculty being eliminated.
Also under the proposal, Elizabeth City State University would merge its Music Industry Studies program with another degree.
Overall, the UNC Board of Governors will decide whether to eliminate 36 baccalaureate, 22 masters, and 2 doctoral programs in the system.
