Man Accused Of Shooting Wife And Making Road Trip Back In Craven Co.

A Havelock man who police say shot his wife and then drove the wounded woman to Charlotte appeared before a Craven County judge this morning.

Ramiro Ochoa, Jr. is facing multiple charges after the Tuesday morning shooting. Police say the man dropped his wounded wife and three children off at a Charlotte hospital.

Yolanda Ochoa was wounded in the upper right leg. She has been released from a Charlotte hospital.

The woman's husband is being held on a $70,000 bond in Craven County. Ochoa told the district attorney that he turned himself into Charlotte police Tuesday night.

D.A. Scott Thomas says there may be more charges against Ochoa stemming from the assault of one of the children and their kidnapping.

Ochoa's next court date is October 21st.

A Havelock man is in custody after police say he shot his wife and then drove the wounded woman to Charlotte with their three children.

Ramiro Ochoa, Jr. was wanted for felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and first degree kidnapping.

Police say the two got into a heated argument, and Yolanda Ochoa was shot in her lower extremities. They say the man is accused of then assaulting one of the three children and forcing them all into the woman's vehicle.

Police say the woman and her children were dropped off at a Charlotte hospital early Tuesday afternoon and the vehicle was found abandoned.

Havelock police say they found evidence at 324 Little John Lane of the shooting and recovered the suspected weapon.

Police Chief Wayne Cyrus says Ochoa is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, first degree kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He says Ochoa is currently on active federal probation.

The man's wife was wounded in the upper right leg. The chief says at last check she was in stable condition at a Charlotte hospital. The woman was also physically assaulted in the attack. The three children are an infant boy, a 12 year old girl and a 13 year old girl. Those children are now with their aunt.

Cyrus says authorities are in the process of returning Ochoa to Craven County to face charges.

The husband was arrested in the Charlotte area Tuesday night, according to Havelock officials who released the information Wednesday morning. The Havelock Police Department is working with the Charlotte Police Department and the SBI. Havelock officials says the Charlotte/FBI Violent Crimes Task Force arrested Ochoa.

Pretty decent of him to drive her to a hospital after shooting her - most would leave their victim to suffer and/or die. Just saying....

That was my first thought too! I think it's more like 6 hours, one way. She suffered all that way, probably terrified too...and those poor children. Hope they find out what pushed him to do this. He really went over the edge.
