PCC Softball Team Eliminated From NJCAA Championships

ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Iowa Western remained alive in the loser's bracket of the NJCAA National Softball Tournament on Friday, cruising to a 9-0 win over Pitt Community College.

The game was the conclusion of Thursday afternoon's matchup that was postponed due to rain in the third inning.

Iowa Western jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on Thursday, as defensive miscues cost Pitt CC a trio of unearned runs.

As the game resumed on Friday morning, the Lady Reivers started to pile on the runs, scoring six times over the final three innings. Kylee Simpson blasted a two-run homer in the sixth inning, and Kylee Polsley doubled home a pair in a three-run seventh inning to put the game away.

Iowa Western pitcher Greta Smeins was outstanding in the circle for the Reivers, tossing a three-hit shutout, while striking out three for the win.
