Pitt County law enforcement and emergency workers came together to play Santa Claus a little early this year.
Pitt County State Troopers along with the Sheriff's Department and Fire and EMS of Pitt County collected toys and are distributing them now until Christmas Eve for more than 600 children for Operation Santa Claus. Tuesday troopers dropped off toys for children at the Howell's Home for children who have medical conditions that enable them to be at home for for the holidays. Sergeant Gary Weaver of the Pitt County Highway Patrol says the departments come together for the children.
"Its the giving to someone who doesn't have anything, or that can't provide for family members in this situation. Here a lot of these children are terminally ill and its the time of giving and the season of giving," said Sgt. Gary Weaver.
Troopers will also be going out on Christmas Eve giving out additional gifts to children in their patrol cars.
