In conjunction with National Poison Prevention Week, many locations across Eastern Carolina will be participating in "Operation Medicine Drop" this weekend.
The event is a chance for people to turn in unused prescriptions.
Many times, officials say the prescriptions end up getting flushed and can make their way into the water supply. Police also say the drugs can make your home a target for thieves who are looking for them.
Last year more than 4 million doses were collected at almost 300 events.
