Onslow Remains Largest County; Pitt Catching Up

Onslow County remains the largest county in East Carolina, that according to data released today from the 2010 census. This while Pitt County was one of the fastest growing counties.

Onslow County has 177,772 people -- up from 150,348 people in 2000. Pitt County is not far behind with 168,148 residents, compared to 133,702 ten years ago.

Camden County is the fastest growing, up 31% during the past ten years.

Most Eastern Carolina counties saw growth in the past ten years, but a half dozen actually lost people. Lenoir County's population dropped by 125, while Jones, Hyde, Washington, Martin and Halifax counties also experienced loses in the 2010 census.

    It would be great if some people in Pitt Co. move to Onslow. Then we want have to bill any more schools.

    Good to hear that Pitt is a haven for the illegal immigration surge that is filtrating the state. Let me be the 1st to congratulate all the emergency rooms for all the extra business. I hope its real profitable to the fine hospital over there.

    Sounds like it's time to move to Martin, Hyde, Washington or Jones county.
