Onslow County Man Killed In Charlotte Crash

A man from Onslow County was killed in a tanker crash in Charlotte this week.

The Highway Patrol says 39-year old Jack Simmons of Jacksonville died after crashing on I-485 in Mecklenburg County early Wednesday morning.

The tanker appears to have drifted off the interstate and crashed into one of the concrete supports for the overpass for Providence Road.

The cab of the semi truck immediately exploded on impact and Simmons died at the scene.

Highway Patrol says the tanker had just been emptied in Spartanburg and was not compromised in the crash.

So sad; sounds like he may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Condolences to his family and friends.
