Spanking of students in Onslow County schools is no longer allowed.
The school board voted Tuesday night to ban corporal punishment. According to a report, there was one reported instance of school paddling during the 2012-2013 school year.
Children's Advocacy Group NC Child says only six school districts in the state still allow corporal punishment. Only two of them have used it more than a few times.
In the 2012-13 school year, Robeson County schools reported 141 spankings, while Graham County reported 31.
The group sent a letter to districts that still allow spankings asking them to stop because they think it is a poor way to enforce discipline.
