Onslow County Family Gets New Home Thanks To Habitat For Humanity

An Onslow County family will have a brand new place to call home for the holidays thanks to Habitat for Humanity and the community.

Standing on the front porch of her new home sweet home, Matilda Jones wipes off tears running down her face.

Jones, her husband, and her two kids Ashley and Jordan needed this three bedroom house, which is a huge upgrade from the two bedroom apartment they lived in in Havelock. Kris Durham of Habitat for Humanity says, "She needed to get out of the moldy apartment she was living in so that her son could have a healthier environment to live."

Jones' son Jordan has medical issues with his lungs--and a nice new clean house could do wonders for his health. Matilda says, "This is a huge hurdle for us, hoping that we'll get a lot of the health issues under control, and get past a lot of medical treatments that we're doing at this point, just so that Jordan can have a better quality of life, without all the treatments and hospitalizations and stuff like that."

Part of the deal with Habitat for Humanity is the new homeowner has to help build the house.

Jones will have a mortgage for the house she will pay off after 30 years with a zero percent interest loan.
