One Thousand People Receive Free Turkeys

Local businesses gave away one thousand turkeys to those in need on Saturday in Greenville.

People lined up as early as 4 a.m. to get the staple of their Thanksgiving dinner. The crowds were overwhelming, while workers with the Law Firm of Roberts and Brown and H & H Transport handed out turkey after turkey.

Workers with the businesses say they wanted to try and make sure everyone in the community has a turkey this Thanksgiving.

This is their 2nd Annual Turkey Giveaway. Last year they gave out 500 turkeys, but they didn’t have enough for everyone who came out. So this year they decided to double the order!

Actually DataMan, Obama would not be President based on just the Black vote, it took WHITES and other races to give him the votes he needed, do the research.

To DataMan: Obama hasn't helped anybody!! What a disappointment. Get out and get a job if you want a better life, stop blaming it on Black/White!!! That just shows your ignorance! You can't sit back and wait for everything to be handed to you!!!

I did not post the comment about reperations. I just think that white people think that we have the same oppourtunity that they have and its all a lie. white people call all of the shots in this country. Obama has come to help everyone!

To Data Man: I don't know of a single person living today who is a slave, nor do I know of any slave owners. My ancestors were mistreated when they came to this country but do I think I should be compensated? No I think just giving me a chance to live in this great country is enough. You should too!

I agree with anon@1145...the line would have been much shorter if they were offering jobs. @Dataman, you need to get a grip and not blame others for your shortcomings. I am black and have not blamed whites for my problems in life, you are making people stereotype us more by having that attitude!

Once, when people received freebies from generous others, there was some humility involved. Now, freebies from generous others is expected. Donate school supplies; donate coats for the winter; donate toys for Christmas. My parents grew up during the depression, and they were poor. A case worker was assigned to each family, and instead of giving them new shoes, they had to put carboard in the soles.

Thank you to everyone that donated turkeys on Saturday! If you had seen the line, you'd realize that whether or not everyone there was "needy", no one in the line was "well off". It's about making the holiday season just a little easier for a few folks...a turkey doesn't keep the lights on, or gas in the car, or kids in school clothes, but it is just a few more dollars that someone can put towards something they really need. If it helped just one loving, hardworking family to give their kids a memorable holiday, something they could be proud of, and thankful for, then wasn't it worth it? Personally, I'd rather help 199 people not in need to get to the 1 person that is, than just throw my hands up and do nothing. Someone's kids are going to remember this Thanksgiving one day, they'll remember the kindness of these strangers, and perhaps they'll grow up just a little less cynical.

Data Man, there are reparations being made to the downtrodden minority. It's called welfare. And I'm sick and tired of racists as yourself blaming whites for all of your problems. Look in the mirror sometime.
