One Month Since Deadly Tornadoes

Monday marks one month since the deadly tornadoes ripped across the state.

The storms were particularly deadly here in Eastern Carolina, claiming twelve lives in Bertie County.

In Bertie County today, many of the destroyed homes have been bulldozed to the ground. Several of the homes in Colerain that were damaged have blue tarps on the roofs, almost like a battle scar from the storm, and a sign that more work needs to be done.

Other heavily damaged areas included Greene County where the middle school was destroyed. Base housing at Camp Lejeune was also heavily damaged.

The National Weather Service determined about 26 tornadoes hit the state on April 16th. Other counties that saw tornadoes include Pitt, Wilson, Beaufort, Halifax and Craven. Nineteen counties have been declared part of the federal disaster area. Tyrrell County was just added to the list last week.

The cleanup and recovery continues in all of the areas that saw tornadoes.

Stopped by Montclair subdivision today. Appears clean-up has been halted. Homeowners doing what they can. Debris/trash still in piles on side of roads. No sign of city clean up crews or FEMA. These folks want to move forward with their lives but still need assistance.

it is time to help these poor people and get them a place to stay, the FEMA org, is dragging their feet as usual, and the animals need a place to stay until they can be re-united with their families. no need of sending billions overseas (pakisitan) when it is needed here, and now the floods.. God bless them

I didn't realize until this weekend that a tornado went across highway 70 between New Bern & Havelock (between Riverdale & Carolina Pines). I was shocked to see all the damage (nearly a month later). I don't remember seeing a report on that area being hit. It was definitly noticable.
