A Beaufort County man was killed in a crash in Kinston Monday night.
Police say 21-year-old Zachary Boyd of Pinetown was killed after a collision with a tractor trailer. The driver of the tractor trailer ran a red light, police say.
The deadly collision happened around 9:45 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Highway 70 and Highway 58 South. Police say Boyd drove his Chevrolet Cavalier into the intersection when the light turned green, and that's when the big rig hit him.
The driver of the truck, 58-year-old Ramon Santiago, of Jacksonville, FL is charged with Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle. Santiago was treated at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston and released.
Police say Kinston Fire & Rescue and Lenoir County EMS also responded.
It happened Monday night about 10 o'clock at the intersection of Highway 58 and Highway 70 near Lenoir Community College.
Kinston police tell us two cars were involved. One person was taken to the hospital. Police are not releasing the name of the driver that was killed until family members are notified.
There is no word at this time what caused the crash.
