Some closure may come soon for the family of a missing kite surfer who disappeared over the weekend. His body has likely been found.
The 44-year-old disappeared off Cape Hatteras on Sunday. The U.S. Coast Guard says the body of a man was recovered off Cape Lookout Wednesday evening, and the body was sent to Carteret General Hospital. There an autopsy will be performed to confirm if the body is that of the missing kite surfer.
The name of the victim has not yet been released.

The 44-year-old man was reported missing around 6:00 p.m. Sunday when his board and kite were located in the shoals without him.

The Coast Guard, Hatteras Island Rescue Squad and National Park Service responders are searching for the 44-year-old kite surfer who went missing near Hatteras Island.
Dare County 911 dispatchers contacted the Coast Guard at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday and reported the surfer’s board and kite was located in the shoals without him.
Crews are searching with by boat and helicopter.
