Highway Patrol says two agencies will stage a train vs. vehicle collision in Nash County near Rocky Mount.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Rail Division and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol will film their response to create a training video to be used for emergency responders throughout the state.
“Investigating a train and vehicle collision is quite different than investigating a vehicle on vehicle collision,” said Paul Worley, NCDOT’s Rail Division Engineering and Safety Manager. “Safety is our number one concern for all who respond to train collisions. But we can be safe, while recognizing the best ways allow trains to leave the scene quickly so that tracks are clear to transport goods and services as well as people.”
The video shoot will take place Monday, May 16 and Tuesday, May 17 at the crossing on East Old Spring Hope Road and Eggers Road, which is near Eastern Avenue and Nash Community College.
