Officials Meet To Talk About Pelican Deaths

Federal, state and local government officials met Thursday morning to discuss the pelican deaths on Onslow and Pender County beaches.

Onslow County Sheriff's Office Major David West was among those at the meeting in Surf City. West says it was made clear by those attending that they will get to the bottom of the mystery causing the deaths of the pelicans.

The number of dead pelicans washing up along the coast the past couple of months is over a hundred. Some had been decapitated, others had their wings broken and even had their pouches slit.

The gill netters and fyke netters and the trwlers and longliners hate these lovely birds. They feel these birds hurt their pocketbook!!!!!! It's the fault of the NCDMF they buy the fish! Conflict of interest with their positions.!!!!!!!
