Officer Hospitalized After Assault At Jail

Officials with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office say an officer with the Pitt County Detention Center was hospitalized early Saturday morning after being assaulted at the Jail.

Officials say it happened around 5 to 6 a.m. The officer was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital with a head injury, but has since been treated and released. They believe the officer was injured while bringing in a suspect arrested on stolen car charges.

Officials say that suspect is Roylin Beale who they say is also the suspect in a hostage situation over Christmas weekend.

Beale is now facing more charges including assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a government official. He's now being held on a total of a $100, 000 bond.

My prayer for a speedy recovery go out to this Officer. I pray for strength for the Officer and His/Her family. I myself work at a medium security prison and people just don't realize just how stressful this job can be. If you work in Corrections or Law Enforcement of any kind I applaude you... THANK YOU

When something like this happens, the guards should give a little "payback", if you know what I mean. It wouldn't happen again if the "residents" knew what was good for them.

My prayers go out to the officer and the family. My husband works at a coounty jail, and to those that do not know, the jails are just as dangerous as the prisons. This is a tough job to do...we should all be grateful to the men and women that are willing to do this job.
