Oakwood's James Demery To Play In Carolina Challenge

RALEIGH – Dave Telep’s 5th Annual Carolina Challenge will be held at Ravenscroft on Saturday, March 26, and an Oakwood School basketball player is among the invitees.

Freshman shooting guard James Demery (6-4, 170) will make his first appearance in the event.

The Carolina Challenge is the signature event for the state’s top basketball players. The top 80 freshmen, sophomore and juniors are chosen for this invitation only, one-day academy that not only showcases the talent in the state, but also emphasizes what it means and takes to become a college basketball player.

Players will be divided into eight teams of 10 players each for scrimmages, and will also attend skill sessions conducted by Denny Kuiper, a former Michigan high school coach and academic advisor for the Marquette University basketball program. Alan Stein, owner of StrongerTeam.com and the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the DeMatha Catholic High School boys basketball program, will be the featured speaker.

Last year more than 30 media members covered the event and the participants were showcased in front of multiple voters for the McDonald’s All-American team as well as other state and national awards.

Previous Carolina Challenge participants include six McDonald’s All-Americans, six Jordan Brand Classic participants, more than 20 NBPA Top 100 Camp attendees, and the top pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.

Dave Telep is a Senior Basketball Recruiting Analyst for ESPN, and his college basketball scouting service is used by more than 225 colleges and numerous NBA teams.
