No Luck With $200,000 Lottery Ticket

A big lottery jackpot is headed back to the state after no one came forward to collect a $200,000 prize.

The winning ticket was purchased back on December 22nd at the Handy Mart on Arendall Street in Morehead City. The winner had until Monday to turn in the ticket, which matched all five white balls, but not the Power Ball in the drawing that night.

The Handy Mart store manager says no one came forward and the money now goes back to the state.

I heard about this on the radio news last week(another station). That report said that if no one claimed the money than half would go back to the lottery monies and the other half to Medicaid. The report went on to say that over eight million unclaimed lottery money has been given to Medicaid but that now there is a bill to stop this from happening. Can anyone tell me why Medicaid got half INSTEAD of the schools? I thought the whole idea behind the lottery was to help the schools.

Dave, I had never heard of what happened to unclaimed lottery money. After reading your comment, I googled it and was amazed to discover you are correct. It stated that so far eight point six million dollars of unclaimed lottery money was, in fact, given to Medicaid. That was before this money went unclaimed. But it said nothing about this being stopped. I would also like to know why the schools did not get the money. It is despartly needed for our children's education. The schools are in such dire need and the monies supposed to go to them went to Medicaid. I feel as if this state has lied to us. One more reason to have no faith in our elected officials! Makes me sick.

This is just wrong. If you buy a ticket keep it and look at the numbers that are drawn to see if you won.

NO KIDDING! If you are dumb enough to spend your money on a ticket and then not keep up with the numbers then you don't deserve to win.
