No Boats On Public Streets

If you have a boat in one coastal town, you will want to make sure you keep it off public streets along with the trailer or you could be fined.

An amendment to a Beaufort Town Ordinance will go into the effect on December 1st prohibiting trailers from being parked on city streets for more than an hour.

Fines will be 50 dollars for each offense.

Police say an attempt to notify the owner will be made before any citation is handed out.

According to police the boats and trailers have become safety hazards and can contribute to accidents because some may block a drivers line of sight. They also say it takes up valuable parking spots downtown.

But some disagree and say once the law goes into effect, a boat will be expensive to store.

Construction workers and contractors can get a special waiver for trailers from police.
