Durham Police have released the name of a 9-year-old boy accidentally shot to death at his home.
Police said Christian Pittman died in the shooting Monday night.
Police Chief Jose Lopez said Christian and an older brother were playing with a gun when it went off.
Lopez said the shooting was the result of the failure to secure the gun from the youngsters. He says owners should get gun locks so the weapons cannot be accidentally fired.
Police have not released the name of the brother or other family members.
A 9-year-old boy has been shot to death at a house in Durham.

Police spokeswoman Kammie Michael says it appears the shooting involved juveniles. She did not provide details.
But Police Chief Jose Lopez issued a statement urging gun owners to store their weapons safely.
The investigation is continuing.
