Newport Man Sentenced To 23 Years In Meth Lab Bust

A federal judge sentenced Jerry Ryan of Newport to 23 years in prison following an April 2009 meth lab bust.

Lawmen in Craven County arrested 40-year-old Ryan after they discovered the meth lab on Highway 70 between New Bern and Havelock.

Eight law enforcement officers were sent to the hospital following the arrest.

Ryan's wife, Bernice Andrus, was sentenced to 13 years in prison last month for her role in the methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy. His cousin, Billy Oakley, is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
