UPDATE: Bertie High Principal Replaced, Named Transportation Supervisor

A once suspended principal has been replaced at Bertie High School, but he has a new job at the district's central office.

According to a statement from the school system's lawyer, Rickey Eley has been assigned as principal at the high school, and Watford is now the Transportation Supervisor at the Central Office while Eley has been assigned as principal for the rest of the school year. Eley had been principal at Colerain Elementary.

Carson Watford was put on paid suspension October 19th, just three weeks after being named principal at the school. He started at the school on September 28th, moving from Hertford County.

Having read the previous 34 comments & factually knowing what I do about state laws & policies regarding the hiring &/or firing of human resources - I am sadden & utterly frustrated that Bertie County Schools is once again on the receiving end of brutal & harsh criticisms, name-calling & innuendoes. It is unlawful to divulge the particulars of C. Watford's employment status. A for keeping Watford & allowing him to work for the monies in his contract as opposed to fattening his pockets and sending him to the bank with a smile on his face. Guilty or innocent - Watford & God, Almighty, know the unmitigated truth. Seems that the "gossip-mongers & insipid-minded" require all of the miry details. As for our children, when we hold ourselves to a higher standard, especially in the face of strife, then & only then, will be able to expect changes in the attitudes of our children. Remember, parents, children should never eat "roasted teacher". Instead of fussing over who the principal is and trying to get the low-down on Watford, you need to seek the Throne of Grace & Mercy - ask God to show up and show out; ask God to Bless BHS & all things in and of it; ask God to direct, lead, & guide the minds & hearts of the entire family of Bertie County Schools. When you cast your concerns, cares, & woes onto the shoulders of God - things will become better for you, your children, and the county-at-large.

Where are the friends of bertie? What do they no about the school systems that they are not telling? Where is the pop icon John Davis who just a few years ago was trying to save the school system? I no FEN Rascoe doesn't care cause his kids go to private school while his wife works for the school system? I am just wondering....

I hope that the board and central office administration start supporting all the schools, since this academic year started all they talk about is BHS. Let’s not forget you have 8 other schools that need your support. I have no clue what the principal at Early College is doing! (Neither does he) A certain board member is always snooping around trying to find errors/faults in the schools, instead of finding faults; Why don’t you lend a helping hand or sit down and keep QUIET? I mean really, look at what the district is doing, we are back to where we started. This county does everything backwards. I see why they call the board clowns, surely they act like it.

WITN's top four stories are out of Bertie County and none of them are positive. We've got to clean up the school system, we are burning up metal a company, we are beating up senior citizens, and we are stinking up the water! What a MESS! SMH

Parents need to act on this move. If the cover up group can do something like this right here among us how many of the peole coming from other states and countries have they hired and swept the dirt under the rug. They will not hire your neighbor, children and, county residents but they will hire rejects from out of the county. The children can't see any future in the county school system because of the hiring practice.

All i can say is one day this will come back to haunt the person behind the set up. There is no way Mr. Watford did anything that he could be suspended for. Could it be that someone else is responsible for this. In earlier post we keep reading that you know what he did wrong now the reason you are not posting it is because of witn not allowing you. Get a reality check you can't post it because he hasn't done anything wrong. I agree with a previous post Bertie County should be sued for this. Also the person that sent this information to the paper and tv station should be dismissed and the story behind the release should be made public just like this joke of a news story. Bertie County Schools get a reality check you truly need one. It is outrageous what has happen to this school system. In all my years this is one of the most outrageous junk manufactured story this has come out about Bertie County. But if you can sleep at night knowing its a lie that go ahead it will get you one day.

Lets solve the problem by not voting for another one of the present board members. They are all yes people. They select people who will do anything for a job. You scratch my back I'll scratch yours. Parents lets vote these people out of office. Maybe Calvin Moore should change his address to Windsor so he can get his job back. It is obvious this board like cover ups. Perfect group for the Water Gate cover up.

you better believe change is coming....we can do it, and send some people down the road. The whole system is currupt and the idiots who claim to be so xxxx educated are destroying our schools in this county. Every time you pick up the newspaper they're asking the commissions for more money? Like our county is so blessed with an unlimited budget. It makes me sick.

Living in Bertie County is not a requirement to be principal. Eley doesn't even live in this state. Under the provisions of the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Act, it clearly states Soldiers have reemployment rights after serving on active duty and under the law are entitled to their reemployment they left before deploying. This School Board defies the law and for the life of me, I cannot understand why they are not facing a lawsuit.
