New Ferry Dock Coming To Beaufort

People will eventually be able to hop a ferry to the Cape Lookout National Seashore from Downtown Beaufort with the addition of a new dock.

The National Park Service has decided to run a ferry from Front St. in Beaufort to Shackleford Banks and Cape Lookout. It is anticipated that a request for proposals for the ferry service will be be released in the spring of 2013.

The park service chose the new Beaufort Town Hall over a location on Tenth St. in Morehead City.

I think this is a great thing it cost 70 dollars for 5 people to go by that little boat to shakleford banks and cape lookout this will likely cost alot less and it will be alot more ecanomical to go to cape look out to visit i will defintely take this ferry when its put in no matter how long it takes

Oh dear! And Shackleford Banks too? Those poor ponys. They used to run wild and free; the sea life that used to abound there...I understand it looks just like a city at night now, especially on the weekends. Too bad the almighty dollar is more important than preserving the shoreline natural habitats. Who's going to pick up the trash from the wasteful human beings who go there just to party? That brings up security...will there be policing of these larger groups? Wow; there goes the all-natural neighborhood.

I bet this is going to infuriate a lot of the locals down there, especially the ones that go out on their own boats and like to enjoy the quietness of those spots.

My husband and I took the Calico Jack ferry to Lookout, just a small motor boat, but the ride over was so refreshing. We rode back in a little bigger boat, with more people, but still...that's what we drove there for; the adventure.

This will never support itself through the revenues and us the TAXPAYERS will yet AGAIN end up supporting something else. There's nothing wrong with several current shuttle services running from Harkers Island that takes only about a 10 minute ride. This new ferry ride will likely be an hours ride. Another stupid decision by another stupid government agency.

And at what cost to the current privately owned ferry services on Harker's Island. Shameful to put these businesses out of work after so many years of great service to their customers. Greed is all this is about.
