New Commander At Fleet Readiness Center East

The largest industrial employer on this side of I-95 has a new commander.

Col. Mitchell Bauman assumed command of the Fleet Readiness Center East at Cherry Police from Col. Scott Loch. Governor Beverly Perdue and other officials were on hand for the ceremony this morning.

FRC repairs and supports Marine and Navy aircraft, one of three such Navy maintenance facilities in the United States. The facility has an annual payroll of nearly $300 million.

Bauman, who started in the Marines in 1980 as a Ch-46 helicopter pilot, had been the executive officer at FRC East since 2009. He is the father of WITN reporter Clayton Bauman.
