New Bern's Police Chief Retiring

One of the longest serving current police chiefs in Eastern Carolina says he is retiring.

New Bern Police Chief Frank Palombo says he will retire on June 1st.

Palombo, who is originally from New York City, has been chief since 1997. Prior to New Bern he spent 20 years with Clearwater, Florida police.

Palombo says he plans to stay in New Bern after his retirement and will serve as a consultant with the city for a short time after retiring.

There is no immediate word on the selection process for a new chief.

Happy for NBPD you are right on the money. Maybe now NBPD will be allowed to be real cops. Speaking from experience I know that the miscreants of New Bern laugh at the PD guys and have been known to give them crap, that is until they see a silver and black or burgandy car pull up and they straighten right up because they know the state and county boys WILL NOT TAKE THEIR CRAP. Palumbo has done nothing to this department but ruin it, causing good officers to leave. And New Bern Native, if you think he has brough "ethics" to the PD, you obviously have NO idea.

Holding them back from what "Happy for NBPD"? This Chief and his administration have brought more professionalism and ethics to this department than any other chief the department has ever had. He and his administration ask for no more than what they have given back to the department. They are nationally accredited and are one of the few flagship agencies in the country. If I had to bet money, I would guess you are probably one of those former officers that lacked in professionalism and ethics , didn't like to follow the rules, and no longer work there.
