New Bern Police Investigating Shooting

New Bern police are investigating a shooting that happened Friday evening.

At 7:17 p.m. police were called to the Walgreen's at 2001 Neuse Boulevard to respond to reports of a shooting victim in the adjacent parking lot.

When officers arrived they found the victim near the Cash Points ATM. The victim had been shot in the back and was transported to the hospital. The victim is in stable condition.

Detectives say this was not a robbery at the ATM. They believe the shooting happened inside of a vehicle and they continue to investigate where the shooting took place.

If you have any information you call New Bern Police Department's TIPS line at (252)636-5034 or the Craven County Crime-stoppers line at (252)633-5141.

...18-21 year old kids would hangout in the parking lot in that spot. 30-40 years ago, even though that area was lower income, older/smaller homes...the people didn't use to be so dangerous and desperate for money. But it also use to be more white people living in that area. White flight has hit the area hard. Many of the older residents have died and the property was sold. Now the new owners rent the property and don't live near that area. (they couldn't care less about the crime problem)

That Walgreen's is across the street from Carolina East Medical Center. That's why I don't ever go to any businesses in that vicinity. All behind the hospital is a bad area; has been for over 20 years.

It looks like violent crime is back on the rise everywhere. Greenville has had 3 murders in the past three weeks, shootings weekly, robberies- and now surrounding towns and cities are experiencing the same.

So you're saying crime has a "ripple effect"? Outlying areas are now desined to have the same shootings? I wonder if it's more of a "Ripple Wine" effect?
