New Hanover County Deputy Shot During Gang Related Traffic Stop

Investigators in Wilmington are searching for a suspect they say shot a New Hanover County Sheriff's Deputy.

The Sheriff's Office says the incident happened during a gang-related traffic stop in Wilmington Thursday. Officials say the deputy was shot in the upper leg while confronting the suspicious vehicle.

His injury is described as non-life-threatening. A spokesperson says he was part of a gang task force monitoring a local housing complex when the shooting occurred. One person is in custody.
